A given Iron Wolf will cast only spells from one family of spells: The Iron Wolves are subdivided into three elemental specialties - Fire, Ice, and Lightning. ![]() Part the Second - The Iron Wolf's Skills: In this regard, they are especially valuable for those needing ranged support, but of a non-physical nature, such as Paladins, Barbarians, and some Amazons or Assassins. Iron Wolves are generally ranged attackers, though they have a melee attack that, in the number of years I've owned Diablo 2, I can count the number of times I've seen them use on one hand. Iron Wolves can use any 1-handed sword, and many different shields, armor, and helmets. They are, however, the most maligned hireling of any in Diablo 2, owing to how challenging they can be to equip and utilize. Boasting the highest possible defense of ANY hireling due to the fact that they can equip shields, Iron Wolves can be quite formidable. Canny Diablo veterans will immediately recognize these mages as being of the same sort that Diablo 1's Sorcerer was. Unlike most hirelings you can pick up, the Iron Wolves are Magic-Users, boasting an elemental attack (and usually, as a result, area-of-effect damage).
